This traditional Swiss chalet has been modernised recently to provide glorious alpine accommodation in Winter and Summer. It is available for rental as a private chalet, or it can be rented as 3 independent apartments on the ground, first and top floor.
The property is situated at an altitude of 4,500' (1370 m), above the snow line in Winter, excellent for skiing. It has a 'picture postcard' appeal, with snow laden trees and Southerly views over the Vaud Alps. The chalet is set in a peaceful mountain location on the outskirts of the village of Leysin in the Swiss canton of Vaud.
CHALET FOR RENT
This traditional timber Swiss chalet is built on three levels, is centrally heated throughout and has two Dutch wood-burning stoves. It has been painstakingly modernised to provide comfortable accommodation without losing that classic 'chalet in the Swiss mountains' feel.
Sky TV, WiFi broadband and BBC Radio 4 are available throughout the chalet and there are 2 garages, should you choose to drive or hire a car.
The chalet is divided into separate apartments on each level, but can be rented as one large family home. The 'apartment' configuration makes it ideal for families holidaying together (not ski-groups or single-sex parties) as it provides the degree of privacy and personal family space that is the secret of a happy shared holiday.
- Garden apartment: Double bedroom facing south, hall, well-fitted shower-bathroom, open plan living area featuring a new Italian kitchen (all machines), dining area, living room with wood-burning stove, opening through French doors onto the attractive garden.
- Mid-level apartment: Double bedroom with views to Les Diablerets, en suite bath/shower room, open plan dining (seats 12), superb modern kitchen (all gadgets and machines), living room with wood-burning stove and large bay window seating. Floor to ceiling sliding picture windows open to a spacious balcony with breathtaking views to south. An extra guest wetroom/shower available.
- Top-apartment: Two double bedrooms, open plan dining/living/kitchen, well-equipped bathroom.
CHALET ACCOMMODATION (can sleep 8/10 in 4/5 bedrooms)
- Garden apartment (sleeps 2): Large bright double bedroom with king-size bed, convertible to two singles if required, modern bathroom with powerful shower and underfloor heating. Sofa bed in living room for occasional overnight use.
- Mid-level apartment (sleeps 2): Light bedroom with superb views, king-size bed, walk-in wardrobe; modern bathroom with bath/shower and underfloor heating. Large sofa bed in living room for occasional overnight use. Additional wetroom shower at same level for visitors.
- Top-apartment (sleeps 4/6 in 2 bedrooms/living room): Two double bedrooms each with king-size bed (or can be unzipped to provide two pairs of single beds), modern bathroom with bath/shower, Sofa bed in living room can provide extra temporary bedroom using sliding wall for privacy.
SWITZERLAND - LEYSIN TOURIST INFORMATION
Leysin is a traditional Swiss farming village, unspoilt by the numerous nationalities attending several international schools. If you are thinking of coming to Switzerland for a skiing holiday, you need look no further. There are two sports centres (including skating rink), varied shops and cafes and excellent restaurants. Leysin has excellent year-round sports for all enthusiasts.
Leysin has excellent skiing, with a good snow record, and is now linked to Les Mosses and La Lécherette via Solepraz. A total of 20 lifts provide access to 30 pistes and 60+ km of skiing terrain with a vertical drop of almost 3,000'. The ski area includes a snowboarding park, Europe's largest toboggan run and 7kms of 'ski de fond' prepared runs.
Glacier 3000, offering year-round skiing at Les Diablerets is close by; ski passes to the whole of the Alpes Vaudoises are available.
Leysin has retained its traditional charm and atmosphere as a Vaud Alps village and is therefore a place to be enjoyed by non-skiing guests. It has a friendly atmosphere, with good aprés ski. It is close to Château d'Oex, Les Diablerets, Gstaad, Villars, Montreux and Lake Geneva. The highest point in Leysin, at Berneuse, features the "Le Kuklos" revolving restaurant at 2,050 meters, with stupendous 360 degree views of the Valais mountains, Mont Blanc, the Rhône valley and Lake Geneva.
Summer sports are well organised too, with options including walking and mountain sports, plus the excellent sports centres. For the less active, the chalet is a wonderful place to simply relax and 'recharge the batteries', with its healthy mountain air, wonderful views, attractive walks into nearby Leysin and numerous excursions to be enjoyed.
Leysin is at the Lausanne end of Lake Geneva tucked up a valley around a corner at the lake's most south-easterly end. This is Switzerland at it's best.
LAKE GENEVA
Historic Aigle castle is 15 mins down the mountain, and a further drive of 15mins past local vineyards (excellent tasting facilities) takes one to Lake Geneva. Here one can find superb attractions, including the Chateau de Chillon (where Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein), the historic city of Montreux, lake swimming at Villeneuve, a water and steam park at Le Bouveret, plus the charming lakeside village of St Gingolphe, half French, half Swiss, where their famed fresh fish cuisine is worth the 30min journey either by road or classic lake steamship.
